“About 10 million people type their personal financial information into H&R Block, TaxSlayer and TaxAct websites every year to prepare their taxes, trusting the companies to keep their information safe. Instead, the companies shared that personal information with Google and Facebook, some going as far back as 2011, members of Congress wrote in a new report.
The congressional investigation, led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), follows a report last year about such data-sharing with Facebook by the technology journalism website The Markup. Warren and six other lawmakers wrote to the Justice Department on Tuesday urging criminal charges against the companies for violating laws that prevent tax preparers from sharing their clients’ personal information.
H&R Block said its do-it-yourself tax filing website filed 8.4 million returns in the most recent tax filing season. An analysis of IRS data by tax prep company Column Tax found that TaxSlayer filed 1.5 million returns and TaxAct filed 3 million returns for customers in 2022.
H&R Block said it has changed its practices. ‘H&R Block takes protecting our clients’ privacy very seriously, and we have taken steps to prevent the sharing of information via pixels,’ the company said in a statement. TaxAct and TaxSlayer did not respond to inquiries from The Washington Post about the congressional report.”
“The U.S. has embarked on the most sweeping foray into industrial policy—the use of government resources to help favored sectors—in generations. Congress has enacted hundreds of billions of dollars of subsidies for semiconductors, renewable energy and infrastructure. President Biden, like President Trump before him, has used tariffs, export controls and “buy American” policies to both bolster domestic industries and counter China.
Indeed, industrial policy in the long run may be a more consequential part of Bidenomics than Biden’s better-known and more controversial fiscal stimulus. But industrial policy differs in one crucial way from fiscal policy, and, for that matter, monetary, health, education and all sorts of other policies: It lacks a rigorous economic foundation.
Scholars and policymakers have no agreed definition of industrial policy: Do tariffs count? The research and development tax credit? Tuition assistance? What about the goal: Is it to save factory jobs? Grab market share from other countries? Hold off China? Develop breakthrough innovations? Solve climate change?
Democratic and Republic senators renewed an effort to block any U.S. president from leaving NATO on Wednesday, as leaders of the alliance attended an eventful summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The joint resolution, seen by Reuters, is a fresh effort by Congress to prevent the president from withdrawing from the alliance without the Senate's approval.
‘The President shall not suspend, terminate, denounce, or withdraw the United States from the North Atlantic Treaty, done at Washington, DC, April 4, 1949, except by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, provided that two-thirds of the Senators present concur or pursuant to an Act of Congress,’ the measure says.
Lead sponsors include Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Foreign Relations and Armed Services committees, and Republican Senator Marco Rubio, vice chairman of the intelligence committee, who is also a senior member of the foreign relations panel.
The bill has been introduced repeatedly in recent years, including during the term of former Republican President Donald Trump, who voiced a desire for the United States to leave the military alliance.

“Give Us Your Wallet Wednesday,” Ripped From The Headlines. Things To Ponder:
“Hey, Everyone Else Is Grifting, Why Can’t We?”
It was already a losing proposition doing your taxes…
Now, we find out that those grifters who overcharge you for software, “add-ons,” and “audit defense” when you do your taxes are also selling your information out the back door to big tech like a Chinese manufacturer…
FOR AT LEAST TEN YEARS.
And, like most big-name grifters who get caught in their grifting, H&R Block makes the obligatory “We’re sorry… that we got caught” statement:
H&R Block said it has changed its practices. ‘H&R Block takes protecting our clients’ privacy very seriously, and we have taken steps to prevent the sharing of information via pixels,’ the company said in a statement.
Two questions to ask yourself:
Would they have stopped if they hadn’t gotten caught?
How many more are doing the same thing?
Know Your Foe.
“We Can Just Make It Up As We Go Along… What Could Go Wrong?”
That’s the logic behind “Bidenomics.”
According to the piece in the Wall Street Journal, they are just making stuff up as they go with their economic plan…
Literally.
If you’re a regular reader, this isn’t a surprise to you. If you’re new, welcome to the world according to those who want to destroy the UNITED STATES.
In a nutshell, this is how the nation is being run:
Indeed, industrial policy in the long run may be a more consequential part of Bidenomics than Biden’s better-known and more controversial fiscal stimulus. But industrial policy differs in one crucial way from fiscal policy, and, for that matter, monetary, health, education and all sorts of other policies: It lacks a rigorous economic foundation.
That last part is really a kick in the teeth…
These are the people at the helm of the most powerful economy in the world…
That’s not good.
Brace For Impact.
”NATO Lives Matter!”
As researchers, we are fascinated by how and when bodies like Congress decide to act, and what they act on…
Open border? No Problem!
Bankrupt Nation? No Problem!
We still get paid? NO PROBLEM!
With all of the issues going on right now, the best that Tim Kaine and Marco Rubio can come up with… is to make sure the President can’t leave NATO without Senate permission…
WOW.
We should all be watching those who have been elected to serve us…
And constantly be asking them if they smell what they’re shoveling…
In a nutshell: They are fiddling while Rome burns.
BRACE FOR IMPACT.
