“The dollar has defied predictions of a prolonged slump since at least the beginning of the year but top money managers say it’s now on borrowed time as US exceptionalism wanes.
The greenback is weakening as US interest rates near a peak and the Federal Reserve’s aggressive tightening begins to take a toll on the world’s largest economy, investors say. That will set the stage for the likes of the yen, kiwi and emerging-market currencies such as the Brazilian real and Colombian peso to strengthen, according to AllianceBernstein and UBS Asset Management.
The dollar’s resilience has confounded bears who had warned that the currency was headed for a multi-year decline following a surge in 2022. But there’s a growing conviction that they may finally be proven right as easing inflation backs the case for the US central bank to wrap up its rate-hike campaign in the coming months.
‘Broadly we would probably assume that the US dollar has had its peak and there might be room for other currencies to perform better in the latter half of 2023-2024,’ said Brad Gibson, co-head of Asia Pacific fixed income at AB. This is because the US economy will slow and the Fed is likely to start easing, he said.”
“Family homelessness in the US is on the rise in an alarming sign of how the increasing cost of goods, the ever-tightening housing supply and the end of most pandemic-era benefits are putting pressure on Americans.
Some 72,700 people in families with children were experiencing homelessness in 20 of the largest cities in the nation as of January, a 37.6% jump from a year before, according to an analysis of data provided by jurisdictions. In New York, that figure shot up by two-thirds, while Chicago, the District of Columbia, and Fort Worth, Texas, also saw outsize increases.
The findings — based on data collected from cities that conducted a count of people staying in shelters or on the streets — show a worsening national picture ahead of a government report due at the end of year. The Housing & Urban Development Department typically releases a full count that includes point-in-time data from more than 400 jurisdictions in December.
The situation is likely even more grim than the numbers show: so-called point-in-time samples often are a significant undercount, and cities including San Francisco and Seattle — which have dire homeless crises — were excluded from the analysis because they only counted the number of people in their shelters this year.
“When she first heard of the humanlike language skills of the artificial-intelligence bot ChatGPT, Jennifer Stevens wondered what it would mean for the retirement magazine she edits.
Months later, she has a better idea. It means she is spending a lot of time filtering out useless article pitches.
People like Stevens, the executive editor of International Living, are among those seeing a growing amount of AI-generated content that is so far beneath their standards that they consider it a new kind of spam.
The technology is fueling an investment boom. It can answer questions, produce images and even generate essays based on simple prompts. Some of these techniques promise to enhance data analysis and eliminate mundane writing tasks, much as the calculator changed mathematics. But they also show the potential for AI-generated spam to surge and potentially spread across the internet.
In early May, the news site rating company NewsGuard found 49 fake news websites that were using AI to generate content. By the end of June, the tally had hit 277, according to Gordon Crovitz, the company’s co-founder.
‘This is growing exponentially,’ Crovitz said. The sites appear to have been created to make money through Google’s online advertising network, said Crovitz, formerly a columnist and a publisher at The Wall Street Journal.

“Turbulence Thursday,” Ripped From The Headlines. Things To Ponder:
“When The Bomb Diffuser Lady Is Running, You Should Keep Up…”
You keep hearing how great the economy is and how there’s no threat to the US Dollar…
“It’ll be dominant forever!”
“What’s the alternative gonna be?”
Yep, we’ve heard it too…
But you know the old saying… don’t take financial advice from broke people.
Big money investors and the people that manage their resources are preparing for a post-dollar-dominance world…
With, or without you.
The good news: Now you know.
The bad news: You need to get moving not just survive, but thrive.
Probably a good time for you to grab a State Of The Economy Report.
Brace For Impact.
“Things Are GREAT! Just Ignore Those Homeless Families…”
It’s getting harder and harder for the average American family to have a decent life in the US…
But everything is going great…
Until you look at this chart from Bloomberg:
We don’t need to beat a dead horse: This isn’t good… and if you don’t act, it’s coming straight for you.
Know Your Foe.
“Is It Real, Or Is It AI?”
It’s becoming more and more difficult to know when a human writes it, or if AI does…
The massive amount of content that’s being created by apps like ChatGPT is leading to a flood of confusion. (Editor’s Note: We DO NOT use AI to write Ripped From The Headlines.)
Important fact: This isn’t a new thing… back in 2018 and 2019, Capital One was testing an AI for customer service via chat…
That was acting like a human.
One of our writers happened to be communicating with it and mentioned something that confused it… and it spits back out a weird series of programming language.
But before that, they had no idea that it was AI. It was communicating like a regular person.
This is a glimpse of the future.
Know Your Foe.
What does this mean?
Things aren’t going to end well if you don’t take action.
But, here’s what’s different this time… multiple people are saying that same exact thing from a number of different angles, and in different places.
One of the things we often say is to watch what successful people do, & do what they do.
Most of them are already out of the line of fire for social unrest or economic collapse…
How do you think they see things ending up?
Why should I care?
When was the last time you checked on your “go-to’s”:
*Your go-to investment?
*Your go-to emergency plan?
*Your go-to community members?
If it’s been a while, here’s some bad news: They probably need to be updated. Role call for Preppers!!
That means you’re behind in planning for rough times.
You should care.
What should I do?
Take a moment… right now if you can… to take inventory of what you’re seeing in this newsletter each day.
Have you ever seen a time quite like this?
Ok good, you’re paying attention. That’s the point.
If you’re not paying attention and trapped in the hustle and bustle of a busy world (with a ton of useless stuff, by the way), this stuff will come up on you like a thief in the night.
You need to take the time to prepare as best you can for a time when good supplies, strong communities, and strong connections are the difference between surviving and thriving or being in bad shape.
GET MOVING ASAP.
Also, please share what you get from this newsletter.
