“Google is testing a product that uses artificial intelligence technology to produce news stories, pitching it to news organizations including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal’s owner, News Corp, according to three people familiar with the matter.
The tool, known internally by the working title Genesis, can take in information — details of current events, for example — and generate news copy, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the product.
One of the three people familiar with the product said that Google believed it could serve as a kind of personal assistant for journalists, automating some tasks to free up time for others, and that the company saw it as responsible technology that could help steer the publishing industry away from the pitfalls of generative A.I.
Some executives who saw Google’s pitch described it as unsettling, asking not to be identified discussing a confidential matter. Two people said it seemed to take for granted the effort that went into producing accurate and artful news stories.
A Google spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Times and The Post declined to comment.
‘We have an excellent relationship with Google, and we appreciate Sundar Pichai’s long-term commitment to journalism,’ a News Corp spokesman said in a statement, referring to Google’s chief executive.
“Surveillance software that uses artificial intelligence to spot people evading fares has been quietly rolled out to some of New York City’s subway stations and is poised to be introduced to more by the end of the year, according to public documents and government contracts obtained by NBC News.
The system, which the city and its transit authority haven’t previously acknowledged by name, uses third-party software that its maker has touted as a way to engage law enforcement to help crack down on fare evasion.
The system was in use in seven subway stations in May, according to a report on fare evasion published online by the Metropolitan Transit Authority, which oversees New York City’s public transportation.
The MTA expects that by the end of the year, the system will expand by ‘approximately two dozen more stations, with more to follow,’ the report says. The report also found that the MTA lost $690 million to fare evasion in 2022.
Joana Flores, an MTA spokesperson, said the AI system doesn’t flag fare evaders to New York police, but she declined to comment on whether that policy could change. A police spokesperson declined to comment.
“The Federal Reserve Thursday officially launched its long-awaited instant payment service FedNow, which allows consumers and businesses to send and receive money in seconds.
The system lets Americans pay for groceries instantly, businesses pay their suppliers, or people pay each other. It will be available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, with full access to funds immediately.
FedNow isn’t offered directly to individuals and businesses, but it will serve as the basis of infrastructure for instant payments by linking banks. Transactions occur between bank accounts and enable funds to be transferred from a sender’s bank account to a receiver’s bank account immediately.
The limit per customer credit transaction will be $500,000, but the initial setting of the transaction limit will be $100,000. The money can move from consumer to consumer, from consumers to businesses, or from business to business.
‘The Federal Reserve built the FedNow Service to help make everyday payments over the coming years faster and more convenient,’ said Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
Over time, as more banks choose to use this new tool, the benefits to individuals and businesses will include enabling a person to immediately receive a paycheck, or a company to instantly access funds when an invoice is paid.’"
“Big Brother’s Victory Lap Thursday,” Ripped From The Headlines. Things To Ponder:
“Not To Worry… AI Will Write That For You…”
On the heels of the story we covered last week about how bad AI is at writing stuff for humans, Google takes the next logical step…
It introduces MORE AI to write stuff for humans.
As a regular reader of Ripped From The Headlines, you saw this one coming…
It’s going to be more important than ever that you watch for things that don’t seem like what a human would say, or how they would write. You’ll also need to be on the lookout for “lazy writing” that’s full of repeated sentences or similar sentence structure.
Oh, and this statement is pretty telling:
Some executives who saw Google’s pitch described it as unsettling, asking not to be identified discussing a confidential matter. Two people said it seemed to take for granted the effort that went into producing accurate and artful news stories.
When you see this stuff, make sure to call it out so that everyone knows…
If you don’t, we’re headed for a future where we will be so desensitized, that we won’t know the difference.
Know Your Foe.
“We Would NEVER Use That AI For Bad Things… Until We Do!”
We’re already in a weird dystopian world… but the hits just keep on coming…
We just covered a story TWO DAYS AGO about an AI system being used in New York to crowd-source license plate data and driving habits to tell whether or not you deserve the secret police treatment…
Now, the subway system is at it too.
And they’ve decided it’s a good time to let you know you’re going to be a villain, whether you thought you did something or not.
We thought the example we provided a few days back will help you to understand why this is bad:
You are a new manager at a store… to get to this store, you have to drive through some rough areas… there’s no other way to get there.
You do this generally at the same times and days…
Until there’s an emergency at the store… and you have to go in at 3 am one morning…
Guess what?
Your pattern matches someone who commits crimes!
That’s your future with this stuff… just like the movie Minority Report.
Know Your Foe.
“FedNow Is Here… RIP, Your Freedom…”
We told you it was coming…
Now, it’s finally launched.
FedNow spells the beginning of the end of your economic freedom.
Here’s what we shared in the July 3, 2023 edition of Ripped From The Headlines:
Evil doers have mastered making something that’s ultimately bad for you, look and feel really sweet…
For instance, the “FedNow” program: What could possibly go wrong?
No more worrying about depositing a check and wating 10 days for it to clear…
Or, no more waiting 3 days on that ACH payment…
Sounds great, right?
Just keep this in mind: You ALWAYS give up something for the convenience.
The same people who have us in $32 trillion dollars in debt and on the brink of an economic implosion are trying to convince you that they can make banking better…
Let that sink in for a second…
Then, take a look at what we shared in the June 20th edition of Ripped From The Headlines:
“CBDC Takeover? You’re A Conspiracy Theorist!”
Well, maybe more like a truth-teller.
If you’re a regular reader of Ripped From The Headlines, you know we’ve talked extensively about Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and what the plan is to implement them. In the US, banks are wrapping up their certifications for the “FedNOW” program, which will make financial transactions instant…
And lay the foundation for a Central Bank Digital Currency.
The IMF trying to do this cross-border is a red alert to the progress of the plan for a world currency control system.
We encourage you to listen to this edition of The Officer Tatum Show with Carl Jackson, as we broke down the banking crisis and what the CBDC will look like:

Brace For Impact.
What does this mean?
Things aren’t going to end well if you don’t take action.
But, here’s what’s different this time… multiple people are saying that exact same thing from a number of different angles, and in different places.
One of the things we often say is to watch what successful people do, & do what they do, AND then watch what unsuccessful people do, and don’t do what they do…
Most of them are already out of the line of fire for social unrest or economic collapse…
How do you think they see things ending up?
Why should I care?
When was the last time you checked on your “go-to’s”:
*Your go-to investment?
*Your go-to safety net?
*Your go-to emergency plan?
If it’s been a while, here’s some bad news: They probably might not work anymore.
That means you’re behind in planning for rough times.
You should care.
What should I do?
Take a moment… right now if you can… to take inventory of what you’re seeing in this newsletter each day.
Have you ever seen a time quite like this?
Ok good, you’re paying attention. That’s the point.
If you’re not paying attention and trapped in the hustle and bustle of a busy world (with a ton of useless stuff, by the way), this stuff will come up on you like a thief in the night.
You need to take the time to prepare as best you can for a time when good supplies, strong communities, and strong connections are the difference between surviving and thriving or being in bad shape.
