“US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said there’s ‘no question’ the collapse of a section of Interstate 95 in northeastern Philadelphia will result in higher prices of goods on the East Coast.
The failure is having an outsized impact on commuters and the movement of goods and services, Buttigieg said Tuesday at a press conference at the site.
The 1,924-mile (3,096-kilometer) interstate runs from Miami to the Maine-Canada border. It’s part of a critical long-distance trucking and commuting route. The portion of the highway, which collapsed after a tanker-truck fire on Sunday, carried an average of 160,000 vehicles a day, he said, 8% of which were commercial trucks.
‘Obviously, that is a lot of America’s GDP moving along that road every single day,’ Buttigieg said.
Those trucks will now be subject to a 40-mile-long detour along mostly non-interstate roads that include more than 60 traffic lights, according to the American Trucking Associations.”
“Like many other retailers, Home Depot has been forced to lock high-value items behind cages to counter rampant theft as Democrat officials in major cities fail to enforce law and order, which has only emboldened criminals.
Home Depot CEO Ted Decker spoke with CNBC's Becky Quick about retail theft and other inventory loss -- known as ‘shrink’ -- ravaging the home improvement stores nationwide.
Quick pointed out Home Depot was very early in warning about America's retail theft crime wave several years ago. She asked Decker what items were currently being locked up at stores.
Decker responded, ‘It's (shrink) is a big problem for retail. And it goes across retail,’ adding, ‘This isn't the random shoplifter anymore.’
The CEO is likely referring to criminal organized gangs stealing merchandise and reselling on online marketplaces.
Many of these thefts occur in Democrat-controlled metro areas where progressive city leaderships have relaxed theft rules, which has only backfired and sparked a shoplifting epidemic.
Decker continued, ‘We hate doing it ... but have had to lock up a lot of high-value items ... and they're not all big like power tools and generators ... some are as small as circuit breakers.’"
“Dollar General’s stock just had one of its worst days ever on Wall Street. And that spells trouble for Main Street.
The discount retailer’s shares fell 20% Thursday after the company slashed its earnings forecast for the year. Dollar General now expects sales to rise between 1% and 2% (down from an earlier forecast of about 3%) and expects earnings to fall 8% year over year.
That news is a giant red flag for the broader US economy.
Put simply: We already knew that American consumers were hurting because other retailers’ results — including Macy’s, Costco, and Target — showed consumers pulling back on discretionary items.
But Dollar General’s worse-than-expected results point to a more-troubling reality for the nation’s consumer-dependent economy. When high- and middle-income shoppers feel strained, they tend to shift their spending — buying chicken instead of beef, say, or getting their home goods from Walmart instead of West Elm.
When Dollar General’s core customers feel strained, they pull back completely.
‘Unfortunately, our customers are saying they’re having to rely more on food banks, savings, credit cards,’ CEO Jeff Owen said on a call with analysts Thursday.”
“Bumpy Road Tuesday,” Ripped From The Headlines. Things To Ponder:
“We’re The Government And We’re Here To Help…”
Right…
The other part that they don’t tell you, is that it will take longer and cost more to do it.
That’s your government at work…
A portion of I-95 in the Philly area, a major transit corridor, basically just blew up…
And, the Transportation Secretary of the United States basically provided this response when asked about it:
How is it, in the most advanced nation in the world with a bunch of resources, getting key infrastructure fixed requires months and months of work?
The bigger issue here is urgency…
But again, when you look at who’s at the helm of the UNITED STATES right now, it answers a lot of questions.
Just like this past winter, it’s probably a good idea to prepare yourself for bad stuff, factoring in that the government will most likely be of little help.
Brace for impact.
“Organized Crime Is Rampant… Isn’t Life Grand!”
That’s what you’ll hear a lot on TV these days, but the CEO of Home Depot doesn’t agree…
As a matter of fact, he and the host that interviewed him basically said the quiet part out loud…
THESE ARE ORGANIZED CRIME OPERATIONS.
Hard to believe? Read this:
Decker responded, ‘It's (shrink) is a big problem for retail. And it goes across retail,’ adding, ‘This isn't the random shoplifter anymore.’
The CEO is likely referring to criminal organized gangs stealing merchandise and reselling on online marketplaces.
Many of these thefts occur in Democrat-controlled metro areas where progressive city leaderships have relaxed theft rules, which has only backfired and sparked a shoplifting epidemic.
It’s about time someone called this what it is…
A great next step would be to track how these groups are being financed to figure out who’s really behind all of this.
Know. Your. Foe.
“BREAKING NEWS: Discount Retailer Tells The Truth!”
This is another one for the “Hey, the economy is fine” crowd…
