“Whether it is managing childcare, operating on a patient or cooking a Sunday dinner, there are many occasions when an extra pair of arms would come in, well, handy.
Now researchers say such human augmentation could be on the horizon, suggesting additional robotic body parts could be designed to boost our capabilities.
Tamar Makin, a professor of cognitive neuroscience at the MRC cognition and brain unit at Cambridge University, said the approach could increase productivity.
“If you want an extra arm while you’re cooking in the kitchen so you can stir the soup while chopping the vegetables, you might have the option to wear and independently control an extra robotic arm,” she said.
The approach has precedence: Dani Clode, a designer and colleague of Makin’s at Cambridge University, has already created a 3D-printed thumb that can be added to any hand. Clode will be discussing the device as part of panel on ‘Homo cyberneticus: motor augmentation for the future body’ at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Washington DC on Friday.
Makin said the extra thumb could be helpful for waiters holding plates, or for electrical engineers when soldering, for example, and other robotic body parts could be designed for particular workplace needs. For example, extra arm could help a builder hammer a nail while holding a joist in place.”
“A surprising number of Americans agree with Georgia firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene that the United States needs a 'national divorce' where red and blue states would separate, and the federal government would be shrunk.
Thirty-four percent of the 1,000 likely voters surveyed by Rasmussen Reports said they agree with Greene – but still 57 percent disagree with the premise.
When broken down by party, Republicans are split on the matter with just a 5 percent margin of those who agree and disagree, while even 26 percent of Democrats say they agree with the pro-Trump Republican congresswoman.
'We need a national divorce,' the Georgia Republican wrote on Twitter last Monday.
'We need to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government,' she insisted. 'Everyone I talk to says this.'
'From the sick and disgusting woke culture issues shoved down our throats to the Democrat 's traitorous America Last policies, we are done,' Taylor Greene insisted of Republican sentiment toward the opposing party.
A majority of Democrats – 67 percent – say they are against MTG's idea, while 42 percent of republicans also disagree with her.
One-fourth of independent voters surveyed February 21-23 are in favor of a 'national divorce,' but 63 percent are against it.”
“Consumers pulled back on purchases of apparel and electronics in recent months while continuing to spend on groceries and other necessities, according to some of the largest U.S. retailers.
Macy’s Inc. and Best Buy Inc. said they expect sales to fall this year, after declining in 2022, as stubbornly high levels of inflation and other economic issues weigh on shoppers. Macy’s Chief Executive Jeff Gennette said he expects consumers to be in worse shape in 2023 than they were last year.
Shoppers are looking to stretch their budgets, buying more lower-cost store brands and smaller sizes of some items such as paper products, said Rodney McMullen, chief executive of Kroger Co., the biggest U.S. supermarket operator.
‘They are behaving as if they are already in a recession,’ Mr. McMullen said. At the same time, consumers are shopping more frequently than they have in recent months and, in some cases, still are splurging on products they want, such as premium beer, he said.
To cope with elevated levels of inflation, people have cut back on some purchases and, in some categories, opted for cheaper, private-label brands. Walmart Inc. said it has added more higher-income customers who have been seeking deals on goods. Brands that offer value such as T.J. Maxx parent TJX Cos. and Burlington Stores Inc. continue to post sales gains.
‘It’s the middle that is getting squeezed,’ said Neil Saunders, managing director of research firm GlobalData PLC.”
“We’re Breaking Up!” Thursday, Ripped From The Headlines. Things To Ponder:
“Need An Extra Body Part? No Problem! Just Give Us A Piece Of Your Body Part First…”
The idea of using machines to help humans isn’t new…
Forklifts and other tools are commonplace…
What’s not (the devil is in the details) is this:
“Homo cyberneticus: motor augmentation for the future body’ at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Washington DC on Friday.”
Yeah, that Homo cyberneticus thing is an issue:
Sure, the idea of an “extra arm to help out in the kitchen” sounds good on the surface… except that’s not the real goal…
The real goal is human-AI integration…
Yep, cyborgs… as in, YOU BECOMING ONE.
Know. Your. Foe.
“I Think We’re Breaking Up… Maybe…Seriously…”
So, on the surface, you say to yourself “WOW… there’s no way…”
Until you actually ask people what they think…
It may sound crazy to some, but when people have nothing left to lose…
They lose it.
And that’s where the tension is…
This is what happens when people who have an evil plan collide with leaders who don’t understand history.
2023, please meet 1856-1859.
That was the period leading up to the civil war…
And things were quite similar to the way they are now…
How’d that end up?
If something like a national divorce is going to be avoided, a lot of hard work is going to need to be done.
Know. Your. Foe.
“The Economy Is Fine! Just Don’t Look Over There…”
That “over there” is the lives of most Americans, who can barely afford to live…
We’ll keep this one short…
If the bomb diffuser gal is running, you should try to keep up.
What does this mean?
Things continue to deteriorate at a more rapid pace economically. Every warning bell is ringing, but many aren’t listening.
Things are actually worse than you were thinking.
This is one of the big reasons we chose to do Ripped From The Headlines… so you can be out in front of what’s coming.
Note the perfect storm of issues, combined with ongoing infrastructure challenges, supply shortages, high prices, and “climate activism” looking to kill natural gas.
None of this is good.
Why should I care?
This stuff is accelerating, fast, and you stand to lose a lot, quickly.
We’re noticing a rapid spike in scams of all kinds. Be vigilant.
You should REALLY care.
They are after you... and everything you have.
What should I do?
Think about the basics that people need, and look at those things as potential avenues to protect yourself.
Do you know why Berkshire Hathaway’s stock is so expensive?
They touch 90% of your life every day, and you don’t even realize it.
You should also tell as many people as you can about what’s happening. Don’t leave people behind, while we still have a window to help them.
A quick way to do that: Share this newsletter… heck, take from it, and do your own. We give you permission…
Take the time to learn more about Parallel Economies, and find alternatives to the things you use today… food, money, and transportation.
