The Skinny:
While headlines celebrated the passage of what’s been dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill,” few bothered to mention the most consequential piece buried in the legislative rubble: $2.5 billion in new taxpayer-funded investment for AI-powered surveillance infrastructure.
Even fewer are talking about the Senate’s quiet failure to include a ban on Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) in the upcoming NDAA.
These two moves: one expanding the eyes and ears of the surveillance state, the other refusing to block its grip on your financial freedom - signal exactly what direction Washington is heading. And it’s not toward liberty.
THE BILLIONS BEHIND THE SCENES
The funding (for the surveillance state) was tucked inside border security and modernization allocations… but the language goes far beyond fences and drones.
The bill directs billions to "advanced AI systems, predictive monitoring platforms, and digital border technologies," including tools that can be deployed anywhere in the country… not just at international entry points.
As The Verge reported, the funds cover “real-time license plate readers, biometric scanning systems, and integrated AI platforms to track behavioral patterns” across major highways and public zones, not just border areas.
What does that mean? Tools that can monitor your movements, flag your social posts, and predict your “risk profile” are now federally funded and ready for rollout.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) warned that these systems would be “aimed inward, not outward.” He called for tighter guardrails on federal AI use but was outvoted. The only major pushback came when the original 10-year federal override on state AI laws was slashed after outcry - thanks to pressure from Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who led the charge to kill it in the Senate. That 99-1 vote gutted what little state-level oversight the bill initially allowed (Thom Tillis of North Carolina was the lone yes vote.)
#CBDC: THE FINANCIAL CONTROL GRID IS COMING
Meanwhile, the fight to stop a federally issued, programmable digital dollar hit a brick wall in the Senate.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) broke the news:

It’s a devastating blow for those who understand what CBDCs really are: a backdoor to total financial control. Programmable money means:
Your funds can be tracked, limited, or frozen based on political views or behaviors.
Your ability to spend can be tethered to climate quotas, vaccine compliance, or “misinformation” scores.
Privacy in commerce becomes a thing of the past.
While House Republicans, led by Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), have introduced the CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act, that effort continues to stall in the upper chamber.
According to sources, the CBDC ban was supposed to be attached to the NDAA as part of a handshake deal… but multiple Republican senators reportedly refused to “jeopardize” passage of the defense bill by including it.
What To Do NOW:
Call your Senators. Demand they publicly declare their position on CBDC and surveillance AI.
Back legislation like the CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act. Hold your representatives accountable… especially in the Senate.
Use cash. Every digital transaction is part of the system they’re building.
Support parallel economies. From Goldbacks to barter, the alternatives exist… if you use them.
